The Raffle:
Mr.
H. W. Perlman, owner of a piano
store, New York, 347 Grand
Street, on the initiative of
Joseph Rumshinsky, with the
support of Ludwig Satz, Yakov
Kalich, Molly Picon and Celia
Adler, has presented to the
committee a piano with a value
of five hundred dollars, which
may be raffled. The committee
has therefore proclaimed a
"folks fund", and [will sell] at
random raffle slips for twenty
five cents. In connection with
[this], some from the Yiddish
theatre stage in New York spoke
about the importance of the
"Lexicon" and called out to the
theatre world to buy the
raffles, which are being sold by
the actors, the chorus singers
and the ushers. So on Second
Avenue Yakov Kalich is speaking,
and then the chorus under the
direction of Sam Kestin will
sell the raffles. Jacob Jacobs
has spoken in the National
Theatre, and the chorus under
the direction of Bark Badin and
the actor Pinchas Lavenda, Sara
Filler, Yetta Zwerling and Golde
Eyzman have sold the raffles. In
the Rolland Theatre Menasha
Skulnik and the friendly ushers
have sold the raffles, in the
Public Theatre Abe Sincoff spoke
and the friendly ushers sold the
raffles. In the Hopkinson Sam
Gertler spoke, and the actors
Betty Frank, Yakov Frank, Bela
Laurence, Annie Zigenloyb, Moshe
Dorf and Solomon Kustin alone
sold the raffles. In the
Province the raffle sales were
not organized. The raffle
arrived at the beginning of the
coming season.

From
the Yiddish State Theatre of
White Russia came an official
notice, that they will send the
biographies of their 32 members.
Part of the biographies have
already arrived. There has also
begun to arrive biographies of
the older Yiddish actors, who
can be found in Soviet Russia.
Materials for the "Lexicon":
The secretary of the Yiddish
