Harry Jordan, Yiddish Actor

Harry Jordan was born on 27 May 1895 in Skvira, Kiev Gubernia, Ukraine. His parents were merchants who immigrated to America.

Harry went into theatre at the age of seventeen with Joe Grossman, who later became the company manager of a Yiddish theatre and after the manager of Broadway shows. In 1913 Harry began to play in Yiddish variety theatre in Philadelphia. Afterwards he acted for five years in sketches in English vaudeville, and also in pieces in dramatic clubs.

In 1927-8 he played in legitimate Yiddish theatre in Baltimore, in 1928-9 in Toronto, and in 1929-30 in Pittsburgh and Cleveland.
