Nekhome Zaltsman

Z. was born in September 1905 in Smargon, Vilna Gubernia, Polish Lithuania.

Her father was a bookkeeper.

She worked as an employee in a haberdashery business, and afterwards she later became an actress. For a short time she was a librarian.

Due to frequent wanderings during wartime, she didn't receive a systematic education and did so only in Rostov. She had the opportunity to learn for a short time in an evening school. There Z. took an active part in drama for the Yiddish workers' club "Der driter internatsional", and in 1922 she learned for a year in a Jewish pedagogical technicum in Minsk and participated in the dramatic circle under the management of Viktor Golovtshiner.

In 1923 she entered into the Yiddish state studio of White Russia, and in 1926 automatically cross over with the other personnel of "Vim't".
