Ita Wolhendler-Krause
(Volhendler-Kroyze)



Born 16, April 1898 in Czestochowa, Poland into a Chassidic family.

Her father was long-time prayer leader for the Piltser Rebbe.

Until age fifteen she studied in a girl's school and as a soprano sang in various choirs.

In 1919 she sang in the chorus of a Yiddish theatre, afterwards taking part in various concerts in Czestochowa.

In 1923 she came to Metz, France and appeared in the Kultur farayn [Cultural Union] as singer, actress then was engaged in Volfshteyn’s professional troupe, then went on to join the Habima theatre.
