Joseph Weinshelbaum

W. was born in 1890 in Proskurov, Podolia Gubernia., Ukraine, to not well-to-do parents.

He completed a Yiddish-Russian government school.

At the age of fourteen he began to participate with amateurs in Russian productions, and also part-time performed in greater roles with professional Russian actors.

He immigrated to Australia where W., in Melbourne, was one of the founders of the "Kadima Dramatic Circle", where he also directed several productions and by himself had great success in acting, also in Yiddish, important roles, between his "Yekl" in Pinski's "Yenkel der schmid" and "Mazik" in Gordin's "God, Man and Devil".

He also, from time to time, participated in the production of the "Yiddish stage" in Melbourne.
