Hymie Wallerstein
 

 

W. was born in 1867 in Grodno, Polish Lithuania, to parents who were innkeepers.

He came with his family to America and here completed public school.

From the profession of an office painter, V. participated in the "Goldfaden Union" and then began to act in vaudeville, where he also performed in dramatic sketches, which he alone directed. Later W. went over to the legitimate theatre and acted for the first time with amateurs, later in father roles at the Lyric, Hopkinson and Grand theatres.

On 26 July 1925 W. passed away in New York.

From W.'s children come one daughter, Rose, a Yiddish actress. W.'s brother is the actor Saul Wallerstein.
