Anna Teitelbaum
(Chana Teitelboym)
 

 

Born on 9 November 1896 in Berlin, Germany. 

Her father was a tradesman. As a six-months-old child, she was brought to Paris where she later graduated from school.

At the age of fourteen, she entered the Jacob Gordin Dramatic Society where she also became a secretary. 

In 1913 she appeared professionally for the first time in Wallerstein’s troupe, and in 1914 Joseph Kessler employed her in London, where she stayed until 1919. There she performed with Adler, Moshkovitsh et al. and then returned to Paris.

She arrived in the States in 1920 where she first performed in Chicago with Glickman, then in Philadelphia with Anshel Schorr, from 1924-29 with the Yiddish Art Theatre, from 1931-32 in Montreal, and in 1932 with the National Theatre in New York.
