Shifra Goldenberg


Shifra was born on 28 May 1900 in a small shtetl within Bukovina.

Her father was a local rabbi.

G. was given Yiddish lessons at home, and completed a seven-class public school.

Remaining an orphan and suffering much from the many separations due to the war, she entered the chorus of Rachel Axelrad in Czernowitz. She then played in various provincial troupes within Rumania.

In 1928 she was with Maurice Ziegler.
