Leyzer Berkovitsh


B. was born on 20 June 1879 in Burduzhen, Romania.

His parents were wine dealers.

He learned in a cheder, completed a primary school and two classes of gymnasium.

He was a "patriot" of the Yiddish theatre, and in 1901 he became the director of a Yiddish troupe in Galicia, with whom B. was associated with. Three years later he went over to Romania and took over the "Pomul Verde" garden, where the Yiddish troupe performed, with whom B. had on lease or interest.

B. brought the "Vilna Troupe" and "Vikt" down to Iasi .
