Mark Turkow

 

 

T. was born on 11 May 1901 in Warsaw, Poland, to well-to-do parents. He was the brother of Zigmunt and Jonas.

He learned in a cheder, then in Krinsky's trade school. Then he studied for two years in a Polish dramatic school and in 1919 completed the first Polish academy for cinematographic arts. In the same year he debuted with a translation in Polish of Peretz, Sholem Aleichem, Asch, Reyzen, Hirshbein et al. Since 1922 he has has been a editorial member of "Moment".

Aside from many articles and reviews about Yiddish theatre, T. published: "A udoy, a dramatic study in one act, publisher "Neytral", Warsaw 1922" [p. 16, 16°] and the translation: "Lenin, komedye fun valtslav grubinski, publisher "Neytral", Warsaw 1922" [p. 4 + 85, 16°], "Der kloun, play in one act by A. Kuprin, publisher "Tsunzer bukh". Warsaw 1921" [p. 22, 16°], "Der antlofener fun dr. teodor hertzl, publisher "Mitn shtrom", Warsaw, 1921" [p. 33, 16°], "Der forshlag, a shpas in one act by Anton Chekhov, publisher "Blumen", Warsaw 1922" [p. 24, 16°], "Di fatale frage, by A. Shnitzler (publisher Sh. Goldfarb, Warsaw 1920)", "Muzik-farherer (comedy in one act) by Gaston Kruiner, publisher "Neytral", Warsaw", [p. 22, 16°].

In 1927  the Kletskin publishers issued T.'s "Briv fun ester-rukhl kaminska" with observations and an introduction [ p. 158, 16°].

T. also completed a large collection dedicated to the beginnings of Ester Rukhl Kaminska.
