Devorah Rosenblum
 

 

Born on 6 December 1909 in Vilna, Polish Lithuania. Father -- a printer. She completed the first Yiddish folkshul under the name of Shimeon Frug, then the eight-class Sofia Markova's Yiddish gymnasium, at the same time a five-year course from the ballet school under the direction of Helena Lashkovitsh and studied in the dramatic school with the Polish theatre "Reduta".

In 1928 R. began to perform as a dancer on the Yiddish and Polish stage, 1930 -- took to acting in Yiddish theatre with Clara Young, and in the same year acted with the Vilna "operetta ensemble". 1931 -- entered into the "Vilna Troupe" (leader -- M. Mazo), with whom she went on tour across Western Europe and married a member of the troupe Nakhum Melnik.

In 1934, when a part of the members of the "Vilna Troupe" decided to split in London, she and her husband returned to Poland, due to the contamination of the Jews from the former Polish government, held back from this, and remaining outside a theatre troupe, they passed over(?) the programs of small-arts, for which the time oysgevaksn the "Rozenblum -- Melnik theatre: the theatre of two". Both became in 1936 invited to South America, where they directed and participated in a large program of small-arts and plays of artistic content. They acted in Buenos Aires  in the "Ift" Theatre, and enriched at the same time their small-arts program.

 

After a tour across South and Central America, she arrived in America in 1946, acted for ten weeks in New York, and managed four tours across the United States and Canada. In 1953 for two years they went on a world tour across Central and South America, Europe and Israel.

R. then performed from time to time in New York with word concerts.
