Dr. Meir Pines
 

 

P. was born in 1881 in Mohilev by the Dnieper, in an aristocratic [mish-ngidisher] family.

He learned in Razinoy in a cheder and yeshiva.

In 1900 he studied in Berlin and in 1902 in Paris' Sorbonne.

In 1910 he published "Histoire de la litterature judeo-allemande", which he wrote as a dissertation for his doctorate. The work, in which he also [bahandlt] the Yiddish theatre, and in 1911 there was published the Yiddish translation of [bel-mkhsbut] (published by B. Shimin, Warsaw), and later also into translations of Russian and German.
