Avraham Lipovietsky

 

L. was born in 1865 in the colony Sageydak, Kherson Gubernia, Ukraine.

His father was a cantor. In 1887 he came with his father to Odessa and there was a choir boy in the shul and then became a folksinger in the wine cellars together with Sabsey. Later he was taken into Kompaneyets' troupe and debuted as "Hotsmakh" in "Koldunya" and then went over to the troupes of Fishzon, Spivakovski, Sabsey and Genfer. Most of the time he acted in operettas and melodramas and with Genfer participated in Gordin repertoire.

In 1921 L. passed away from a heart stroke in the Yiddish theatre in Odessa.

L.'s daughter, Miriam, acts on the Yiddish stage and is the wife of actor Fishl Kanapov.
