Leo Halpern
 

 

He was born on 24 January 1894 in Chortkov, eastern Galicia. His parents were laborers.

Until the age of thirteen he studied in a cheder, .... in the village, afterwards in the city, then he completed a gymnasium, while at the same time studying Hebrew.

Later he ended in the Vilna "Hochshul (High School)" for music and the [darshtelender] arts", the "actor-faculty" and he attended several semesters of philosophy faculties.

In 1921 H. composed for the "Dbmh" in Vienna, that [falt zikh fanander nokh] some Hebrew productions.

In 1924-5 H. founded in Vienna a small Yiddish theatre studio from which were under his direction the small arts stage called "Di goldene pave".

H. acted in the Yiddish theatre in Vienna, Rumania, England, Galicia. Belgium, Paris and since 1925 in Argentina, where he also founded the dramatic school "Yung Argentine". H. went especially for recitals, and had also written some articles about the theatre.
