Emil Gimpel
(Shmuel Mendl)
 

G. was born on 8 March 1867 in Lemberg, Galicia.

He is the son of Yaakov Ber (Gimpel).

Soon after the founding of his father's theatre, G. became the head of the business, and since 1906 (with breaks) he alone ran the theatre, also leading most of the time [markn-ysudut].

During the Renaissance movement of the Yiddish language, the theatre changed the name of the "Yiddish Theatre", and for a certain time was led on the [markn], by Emil's son, Dr. Gimpel, the husband of the actress Malvina Yoles.

Recently, Emil has returned to take over the leadership of his theatre.
