1931-1969
 

Bernard Geiling

 

Born 15 December 1899 in Suwalki, Poland. 

His father was a tailor who sometimes used to play the violin  at weddings. 

G. studied at a cheder, and afterwards in the Suwalki yeshiva. Until the age of fourteen he learned Hebrew, Yiddish and Russian.

In 1914 he joined his father in America. G. worked in an industrial workshop by day, and attended classes at an evening school.

G. also studied music theory and joined a drama club, and in 1918 began to play professionally in the province. In 1922 he joined the [Yiddish] Art Theatre, and since then has appeared from time to time in the provinces and in Canada.
