Notes on the photographer and his studio, as taken from his applications to open up a studio and governor's permissions that were found in the historical archives of Vilnius:

Itzik Chonowitz, son of Judel
-----------------------------------------
--From citizen caste, of Jewish faith.
--For two years studied photography at Priwalsky's studio.
--From 1871 to 1887 the studio of Chonowitz was located at Didzioji (Wielka, Большая) street in the Prikaz building (later Tiesenhaus's and later the Syrkin building.) (Governor's permission no. 2653, issued on 21/07/1871).
--In 1887 the studio moved to the Kotwicz's (later Gleser's) building on the same street (Governor's permission no. 5043, 14 Oct 1887), because of the poor lightning conditions at the studio after a new rear annex to the house was built.
--From September, 1899 the studio was located in the building of the Kholem brothers on Didzioji street (Governor's permission no. 9964, 13 Sept 1899).
--In 1908 the studio was still located in the same place.
