LIPMAN DOV BER CHOROSZCZ
Zambrow, Poland
bef 1917

Lipman Dov Ber Choroszcz was born in Zambrow on 10 March 1860 to Yitzhak Leizer Choroszcz (1827-1914) and Marym Burak[-iewicz] of Snaidowo (1832-?). He was one of six children. The family lived on ul. 15 St. Kryszka just off the Stara Miesta. He married Elka Libbe Kawka[-iewicz], the daughter of Mordka and Ena Bella circa 1884. They had five children: Avram Eli, Chaya Feiga, Mnucha, Mordka and Henach. He married again after the death of Elka Libbe circa 1900, to a woman who was much younger than him. Her given name is known as Bina Etka. They had one child: Masha 1905-1941. She and her family died in the Holocaust.

Lipman became self-employed by buying the rights to harvest local orchards. He would then sell the fruit in the local market, as well as the surrounding towns and villages. He also sold to the Polish military barracks that were situated within Zambrow itself. His children, including the girls, helped him with the harvest. He also purchased the bristles of the local farmer’s hogs and sold them to companies that manufactured paint brushes.

He passed away on 20 Jan 1917 in Zambrow.
