YEHEZKEL AND SONYA GERMAN
Dubno, Ukraine
1920

Yehezkel and Sonya ran a home for two-hundred orphaned Jewish girls in Dubno. One night during the winter of 1941-1942, Nazi soldiers told them they would have to turn the orphans over by the following morning. When the soldiers came the next morning, they found Yehezkel and Sonya's bodies. The couple had told the girls to escape, then poisoned themselves.
