MANHATTAN, NEW YORK

The New York Public Library, situated in various locations within the borough of Manhattan, is a wonderful resource for researchers. Below is a list of more than three hundred Yiddish language periodicals (from throughout the world where the Jewish people once lived), available on microfilm upon request, within the Library itself. You should check their website at www.nypl.org to determine the location of any of the microfilms you may wish to view.

Note that the periodicals are in Yiddish, so for those who cannot read Yiddish the challenge of fully appreciating their content will be daunting. There are, of course, those who can translate from Yiddish for you for a fee. There are also those who may translate for you as a volunteer, if you can find them. You may wish to try JewishGen's ViewMate, by posting any scan of microfilm on it and request that someone translate it for you. The service is free, though you must sign up with JewishGen first. Please read more about it. You can reach their website at www.jewishgen.org .

Here then is the list of periodicals. Within each parentheses is the city/town in which the periodical was published, as well as the years of publications that the Library has available to you on microfilm).
